Literacy Awareness Day
November 23, 2009 was Literacy Awareness Day at Queen’s Park, organized by Laubach Literacy Ontario (LLO). LLO brought together teams of literacy workers, volunteers and learners from across the province to meet with MPPs in order to deliver a common message.
- We thanked the Ontario Government for the extra funding literacy programs received this year.
- We argued that this money should continue as core funding for programs. Literacy programs have not received an increase in core funding over the last ten years.
- Stronger literacy skills help individuals and families improve their standard of living, their health outcomes and their community engagement. We become safer and more productive workers.
Literacy Awareness Day was such a success, LLO hopes to make it an annual event.
